Recently, I asked a group of very smart, knowledgeable people, most of whom have participated in some way with mergers and acquisitions, if they had recommendations for a lawyer or law firm to provide legal advice to help a small business client buy or sell a business. Having passed these recommendations on to the small business considering an acquisition, it occurred to me that these referrals might help other entrepreneurs buy or sell businesses. An attorney should review all documents when you are buying or selling a business, including franchises. If you don’t have an attorney, below is a list of firms recommended by sources I trust, as a starting point. Be sure to ask people you trust for referrals as well.
